OTTUMWA -- The Southeast Iowa Symphony Orchestra will hold a season kickoff event on Friday, September 8th, from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM at the Market on Main in Ottumwa. The event will serve as an opportunity to announce this year’s concert season schedule and guest artists while introducing new area residents to the orchestra.
The symphony will showcase two of its’ own chamber ensembles, including a string quartet and a brass quintet. Executive Director Jeff Phillips will give a short presentation on the symphony and its’ upcoming season -- entitled “Romance”. Phillips will also discuss the orchestra’s educational outreach including free concerts and artists in residence in area school districts, the annual Kidsymphony and the annual Southeast Iowa Youth String Festival.
Phillips will also speak about this season’s promotion to provide free tickets for K-12 and college students, new ways to purchase tickets, and plans for Ottumwa’s second annual Concert for a Cause. Last year, the benefit concert raised over $1,700.00 for the Ottumwa YMCA. Guests will also be able to purchase classical concert season tickets, individual tickets for all of the orchestra’s concerts and the September 23rd Pops Concert featuring the music of Harry Potter, Star Wars, and other iconic works by John Williams.
The event is free and open to the public.
